Has 9/11 made many Americans bigots and disrespectful of constitution?

I know many people who have this attitude that "all muslims are vermin". There are lot of law abiding muslim citizens and to hate them only because of their religion shows total disrespect of constitution. So has 9/11 made many "unpatriotic"? A true patriot always respects freedom of religion.
