What's the best kind of BBQ grill?

I've had a ton of different grills and I've never been happy with any of them - they don't seem to sear the meat like I like them - I had an Australian one once which was good, the burners were closer to the grill. Can anyone recommend the best BBQ grill, propane or charcoal?
